Aleix Espargaro Happy Aprilia Continues to Show Progress

Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro showed a positive impression when he first tested the new components for the 2022 RS-GP.

Espargaro was kept busy by testing some of the new components and trying out various settings intended for next season's bike in the MotoGP test session earlier this week.

Although still using the motor at this time, the Spaniard felt a big difference which made him even more confident with the performance of the motorbike next year.

However, Aleix Espargaro also has a lot of notes for Aprilia technicians to make the bike much more competitive.

Even so, he feels Aprilia is on the right track in trying to match the level of other manufacturers.

"I am pleased. It's not easy to make improvements on this track and improve the lap times. The track design is not too long and this is not the best circuit for us," Espargaro told MotoGP.com.

"Overall, I'm happy with the progress we've made. We tried a lot of things, including different aerodynamic settings and new components for the 2022 bike.

“We have made a step forward and it always feels good. Let's see if what we have done in the tests will benefit the second race at Misano."

Aprilia also brought their test rider, Lorenzo Savadori, on a two-day test at the Misano Circuit to provide his input on the components of the 2022 RS-GP motorcycle.

The team, based in Noale, Italy, also showed a smaller fairing aimed at reducing air resistance.
“We also tested the new fairing, with a different model. Next year we plan to homologate two different aero fairings,” he said.

“So not only do you have a variant that works well, but you also have a model with the required downforce on certain tracks.

"I also tested some of the new components that will be used on the new bike and so far I like it."
While Aleix Espargaro was busy testing the new kit, his team-mate, Maverick Vinales, was focused on improving his feelings aboard the RS-GP.

The Aprilia rookie took 149 laps in two test days at Misano and found a lot of things to be useful for him to face the next race.

"I tried different settings, which is the most important thing, and I also tried to find a much better feeling on the bike," said the former Yamaha and Suzuki rider.

“We found a lot of positives, especially for Austin, a track where you have to brake hard.

"We keep working, increasing the pace, which is a good sign. But to get the fastest lap time, I have to get to know the bike better.

“Overall, I am very happy. I also learned a lot during the tests and that's my goal."

Maverick Vinales believes if he can get a better feeling then he can go even faster with the RS-GP.

“From the first to the second day of the test we had an increase of 0.7 seconds, which is incredible. But I know that everyone is growing too, so we have to keep going," he said.

"We're not that far away, but we're still missing a bit of time. But, I feel better in every session. I feel the potential is huge and step by step we can take it out."
