Paris - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Mauricio Pochettino said Lionel Messi was fit to face Manchester City on the second matchday of the Champions League group A phase, Wednesday (28/9/2021).

The former Barcelona forward was withdrawn with a knee injury against Lyon in Ligue 1 earlier this month. Messi missed his team's wins over Strasbourg and Metz.

Pochettino is confident about Messi's chances of playing against City. He confirmed that the 34-year-old would be available for a reunion with Pep Guardiola.

"He is in very good shape. I think he will be in the squad but I still haven't decided on the starting XI."

Les Parisiens may also welcome Marco Verratti's return to the squad after a knee injury, but Sergio Ramos is still out and Angel Di Maria is serving a suspension.

Lionel Messi made his Champions League debut for PSG in a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge two weeks ago. The Argentine star is still waiting for his first goal in navy blue.

Awaiting Debut Goal

Lionel Messi made his PSG debut against Stade Reims, but started from the bench. He just started to face Lyon last weekend.

PSG was able to rise and win the match with a score of 2-1. However, Lionel Messi was withdrawn midway through the match, when the score was 1-1, and was visibly upset by the decision of the coach, Mauricio Pochettino.

Messi has only appeared in three games and has yet to score or assist.

PSG confirmed Lionel Messi has a bone contusion in his left knee and requires a scan. After undergoing treatment, Messi has the opportunity to return to the Champions League and fans have been waiting for him to score his debut goal.
